The second day, they continued to jackhammer the west patio and also started on the east patio. They also completed the utility line trench. Unfortunately, the gas and electrical hookups are on the furthest corner of the house from where we're installing the fireplace, so they had to trench all along the west side of the house and all across the back. And it was all 18 inches deep (a code requirement and a plain good idea). Our clay soil made that tough going at times, but it was all done to the proper depth by the end of today, and the lines laid to bring gas and electrical to the fireplace and the grill.
