Today they set the flagstone patio edge in concrete, and it looks very nice. (They like to set the edge first, and then later pour the patio concrete up to it, so that we'll have a very clean joint where the concrete meets the flagstone's irregular edges.)
They also built a rebar base for the chimney (and mantel), anchored into the new side walls and the existing retaining wall. They carved a notch out of the retaining wall to put the electrical switch junction for the fireplace.
